History – 2009-2010
During this time I lost interest in photography a bit. I kept wishing that my 50D was smaller and lighter. In the end I didn’t want to give it up for the 400D though (which I still have even now). During the Spirit of Japan cycling trip I barely used any of my expensive lenses and just kept the 18-200mm on all the time. And even then I used my only new purchase of 2009-2010 more: a Canon S90 compact, which I love very much.
The cameras did sustain a bit of damage during the trip: on the first day of SoJ I dropped my 50D on concrete from hip-height. Amazingly everything was still working fine, except for the shutter button, which I now have to press very firmly to get a shot out. On the last day of the trip I dropped my S90, once again on concrete from hip height, and the top part is a bit wonky right now. Everything still works though.
